EMU Interior Video

It’s taken a while but AT has finally got around to posting the video that shows what the interior of the new EMUs will look like. They say the colours are still a work in progress so don’t get to caught up about them just yet.

We should get a chance to see what the trains will look like in person soon as the next mock-up from CAF should already be on the boat as it is due to arrive in June and after it has been reviewed by AT will be put on public display somewhere to allow people to comment on it. Here is the latest photos of that Mock-up from the April AT board report, once this arrives I think it will really help to get the wider public excited about them.

Wow nice to see the video – makes the trains somehow a bit more “real”. I do certainly hope that orange isn’t the final chosen colour. Auckland’s colour is blue – I think the seating should be a patterned blue.

  • I give the interior colouring in this fly-through video, the full thumbs-up. I like the colour combo. I think this time, that AT have got the interior colour combinations right. I like it, I like it!

Why make a mock up of the outside of the train? The inside is useful for user testing, but I would have thought the outside was pretty standard apart from the paint.

Looks good, but I can’t see any onboard train information display panels like “next stop, manurewa” “doors closing”

Is the blue – “close door” button standard? I thought the doors closed on their own when the train was ready to leave the station…

Also those bars on either side of the doorway will be very constraining. As people like to linger around the door, especially during peak hours, those bars prevent them from sliding across to let other passengers in and out. In effect narrowing the doorway and prolonging boarding and dwell times.

With the exception of the front facing seats, they seem very similar to the London Overground trains, which are totally the best part of the TFL network
