Going away

I’m away on the Coromandel Peninsula for the next couple of days for work purposes, so probably won’t have internet – so don’t expect any posts until Saturday I imagine! A few questions in the meanwhile to ponder:

  1. When will there be an announcement on the funding for Auckland’s electric trains?
  2. Why is it so important for a bunch of roading projects (Manuakau Harbour Crossing Project, Newmarket Viaduct, Victoria Park Tunnel) to be completed by the time of the Rugby World Cup, but seemingly not important for public transport projects like integrated ticketing and electrification to be complete by then?
  3. Does nobody realise that tourists tend to catch public transport, and not bring their cars with them on the plane?
  4. What NEW public transport projects have National announced since becoming government?
  5. Why do we need bigger trucks?
  6. Why can’t Infratil just accept they lost the integrated ticketing contract?

1). Hopefully soon and PPP free…!
2). The RWC is being used as an excuse for a whole heap of stupid righty ideas, same with the recession…
3). Not nobody a few of us do…
4). I was watching parliament today and they talked about their great announcement of intergrated ticketing..!
5). We don’t, the damage to the roads will cost far more than the benefit to the economy…
6). They haven’t yet, Joyce can still torpedo it, they won’t quit till someone signs off on the final project…

    1) Future hazy; shake the 8-ball again
    2) A law-and-order issue; these roads are vital to diverting car-driving criminals away from Kingsland where they would otherwise be robbing tourists staggering between bars post-match
    3) There’s always taxis, which allow tourists to spend ten times as much for the same trip, and to enjoy that thrilling Amazing Race vibe complete with cussing at the locals and their slow traffic (BYO video camera)
    4) Expect an announcement soon on converted shipping containers to ease Kiwirail’s commuter rolling stock shortage (BYO chairs)
    5) Greater road damage means more road repair spending in a virtuous GDP-enhancing circle
    6) It’s not over until it’s cancelled and the money redirected to cycleway PR
