As a well travelled tourist, I find Auckland's public transport system simply *shocking*! I haven't seen anything as bad in developed world except for some US cities. Europe, Asia and even Australia and Wellington kicks Auckland in the nuts!

This really is depressing stuff. I think we can safely say that none of this stuff is really Joyce's idea, he is just peddling and signing off on what the National party line is and has been for a long time. I knew National and their car addicted policy makers would be bad for Auckland but I never realised they would so quickly act to repeal so many of these laws that will have long term positive benefits. One fear I have is that the establishment of the new Auckland Super council gives them a free hand in re-establishing ARTA along the lines that they want, and this almost certainly won't be along the lines of an organisation that will benefit PT in Auckland.

Well effectively he's proposing the repeal of something that hasn't really taken much effect yet - the good old "take it away before they knew how good it would be" approach that National seems keen on. I can't see any justification for this though, other than "Infratil want us to do this". Seem like Steven Joyce is little more than a figurehead for both Infratil and the Road Transport Forum.

This Act is essential for integrated ticketing, and for the improvement of our public transport system into an effective and logical system. Without ARTA having some control over the commercial routes we will never get anywhere.

This is disgusting. What a complete and utter ideologue.

Does the fool not realise that operators will simply serve point to point in rush hours, overcrowding these buses, which is where the profit is, and cut out the roads and suburbs and hours that do not suit them. As a result, public transport becomes a nightmare, and completely unreliable as a form of transport.

Auckland is in for a transport nightmare.

He is the Road Transport Forum's wet dream. In fact, he is so closely aligned with them that one wonders about the dreaded 'corruption" word.
